COMS 4501 Portfolio
This portfolio contains all the work I've done for my Digital Media Production class. We were required to create an audio portrait, a soundscape composition, and a podcast. This class helped me to create content, through audio and imagery.

01 - Audio Portrait
Sense of Belonging
For my audio portrait project, we discuss the concept of "home" and try to understand what home could be seen as. I decided to have a conversation with my brother, Hamad, as he is a little older than I am, which could benefit the conversation as he may present a perspective regarding the topic of "home" which I, or others in my age group, may not have considered. He is in a unique position, as he was born in Kuwait but lived most of his life in Canada. Growing up with two cultures gives him a wider scope to analyze the concept.
02 - Soundscape
My Day Off
For my soundscape assignment, I decided to record the environment I was in on my day off. I've spent the majority of my time at my desk during this school year and realized that I don't take enough time to take care of my physical and mental health. The first thing that came to mind was walking around and taking pictures of the downtown streets and buildings, as it's a hobby of mine that I really enjoy. I decided this would be the best environment for me to capture for the assignment.

Since the soundscape is of my day off, I thought it was fitting that it represented how my day went, which was constantly in motion, so the audio consists of transitions between environments and locations. At any point you hear the motion in the background become stagnant, it's an indication that I've stopped and attempting to compose my image.

Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the microphone was rubbing on my jacket at some points so you may hear it but it doesn't take away from the overall experience of the composition.

The audio starts with getting on a bus and transitions to boarding the Hurdman Station LRT train. Once I arrived at Rideau, I grabbed a Starbucks coffee and walk around until I got tired. Enjoy!

03 - Podcast
Surviving University During a Pandemic
In this podcast, I have a discussion with one of my friends, Neven, about our stress during pandemic. We discuss the source of our stress and how we managed to stay positive throughout it all. We touch on how we felt we handled it, as well as how Carleton University professors were helping their students throughout the year.
